The best places to land in Fortnite right now

Survival is key in Fortnite, and it all starts by picking the best starting location. Even if you’re an expert player, your likelihood of coming out on top is greatly diminished if you start off on the wrong foot — whether it be at a barren location with no loot or a hot drop that could lead to a swift death. As part of Fortnite chapter 5, season 1, there’s no shortage of fantastic landing spots, but which one you choose comes down to your skill and preference, and you’re going to want to pick the right one if you want to win Fortnite. So join us as we show you the best Fortnite landing spots for veterans, beginners, and everyone in-between.

The best places to land in Fortnite

Before jumping into the list, it’s important to be aware of what makes a good landing spot. Sure, any place with decent loot might serve you well, but there’s more to consider than that. Does a spot have a consistent chest/loot spawn? Are there guaranteed materials? Is it close to other places of interest (POI)s? Is it out of the way? Of course, loot is the most important aspect, but it does you no good to have a stacked loadout if you’re stuck in the storm. These recommended landing spots all have some degree of consistency and fantastic loot. they also typically have some quirk that makes them effective depending on your playstyle.

Ruined Reels

Epic Games

Ruined Reels is located in the center of the chapter 5, season 1 map, making it an excellent choice for those looking for freedom in rotation. There’s a decent selection of chests and weapon cases in these ruins, too, so you shouldn’t have many issues getting kitted up before heading out. However, due to its location, this POI can be a bit crowded in some matches. As such, be prepared to land directly on a gun or chest to ensure you’re ready for a fight.

Reckless Railways

Epic Games

Reckless Railways is located just northeast of the center of the chapter 5, season 1 map, allowing you to rotate in pretty much any direction the first circle dictates. A boss named Valeria can be found and defeated here, which you can prepare for by looting weapons from any of the various chests all over the POI. Once she’s down, you can use her key card to open the vault in the basement of the southernmost building here (left of the tracks) where you’ll find a Weapon Mod Bench alongside a nice selection of guns on the wall.

Classy Courts

Dropping into the Classy Courts location in Fortnite.
Epic Games

Classy Courts is located in the northeastern section of the chapter 5, season 1 map, which gives you a lot of choices to the south for rotating. While this landing spot isn’t necessarily the most loot-dense, it’s a really fun place to start because of the layout of the area. You can find plenty of chests on the tennis courts here if you want to get right into the action, or you can land in one of the buildings on the outer rim to play things just a little bit safer against those who will be pushing in on you from the courts.

Snooty Steppes

Snooty Steppes location in Fortnite,

Snooty Steppes is located in the deep south of the chapter 5, season 1 map, providing ample opportunities to rotate to POIs like Pleasant Piazza or Fencing Fields to the north. There’s a lot of a loot to go around here, especially if shoot down the flying drones or defeat the area’s boss, Peter Griffin. Using his key card, you can access the vault in the western part of the area for a Weapon Mod Bench and some weapons along the wall. However, it’s worth noting that being such a fantastic spot to land makes it pretty busy sometimes, so stay alert and loot up quickly.

Lavish Lair

Players fight in front of the Lavish Lair location in Fortnite.
Epic Games

Lavish Lair is located in the northern section of the chapter 5, season 1 1 map, so you should be able to rotate just about anywhere you’d like to from this spooky mansion. There’s no shortage of loot to go around here, and it’s a super fun place to have firefights – something you should definitely be expecting if you land here. If you defeat the boss named Oscar wandering around inside, you can loot his key card and open the vault beneath the mansion to access a Weapon Mod Bench and your choice of guns along the wall nearby.

The Train

A player landing on the train in Forrnite.
Epic Games

The Train moves around the chapter 5, season 1 map and can be an incredibly popular landing spot. There’s a good reason for its popularity, though – it’s a very enjoyable way to begin a match and provides a decent helping of loot to those who stick around. If you hack the chest on the train and defend it for a brief period, it’ll reward you with a nice selection of weapons and healing items to choose from before you decide where you’d like to depart. All aboard!
